The state is taking back its decision to turn off street lighting on the Glenn Highway, Sen. Shelley Hughes said Tuesday evening.

In an effort to cut costs, the Department of Transportation & Public Facilities announced Monday it planned to turn off highway lights between 1 and 4 a.m. The decision was met by backlash from commuters who cited driving hazards and safety concerns.

"DOT will be working to find cost savings elsewhere — on items that don’t impact safety," Hughes said in a Facebook post.
