First responders went overboard – literally – to help make the case against a man accused of illegally wasting king salmon in Southeast Alaska.

According to an online dispatch from Alaska Wildlife Troopers in Sitka, 63-year-old Gene E. Gilden of Anacortes, Wash. was cited for the waste charge, as well as retaining king salmon during a closed fishing period.

The investigation stemmed from an offloading of troll-caught coho salmon from the fishing vessel Katie J, during which troopers discovered two kings had been kept on board the vessel. Gilden was the vessel's permit holder.
