A felon is accused of firing shots after an altercation in east Anchorage, then leading officers on a pursuit through Airport Heights.

Around 1 a.m. Monday, Anchorage Police received word of shots fired in the 1000 block of San Fernando. Responding officers learned that there was a disturbance among a group of males when 34-year-old Michael R. A. Pope fired off several shots before leaving in a red Dodge Ram

An officer saw the pickup in the Debarr Costco parking lot and began to follow. Once in the parking lot of Northway Mall, the officer attempted a traffic stop but Pope refused to pull over and began driving recklessly, leading the officer to discontinue the pursuit, APD says.
