U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak came to the rescue after receiving a report of a man who was hit in the head with a 37-pound block of fish near Cold Bay on Thursday.

U.S. Coast Guard officials say an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and crew transported the 21-year-old man from the 154-foot fishing vessel Defender. It was located about 260 miles north of Cold Bay.

The man received injuries that needed medical attention, so he was first sent to St. Paul; then taken to a hospital in Anchorage by commercial medical services.
